St Johns Wood Area Guide

St Johns Wood

St Johns Wood area guide

St John's Wood is undoubtedly one of the capital's 'coolest' places to live. Not least for the fact that it is home to one of the most famous recording studios in the world - Abbey Road Studios. When the Beatles posed for their legendary album cover in 1969 little did they know that they were writing pop history and turning an ordinary zebra crossing into a pilgrimage site.

Today, NW8 has lost none of its charm and whilst Abbey Road studios remain a permanent landmark, there is so much more to discover. One of the prettiest parts of St John's Wood is Primrose Hill, which borders the north side of Regents Park. From this charming vantage point it is possible to gain sweeping views of the capital. Primrose Hill is also famous for its celebrity residents many of whom are referred to as 'the Primrose Hill set.'

Another striking feature of the local landscape is the London Central Mosque, an architectural jewel with its gold dome that can be seen for miles. Lord's cricket ground is also nearby along with a wealth of boutiques and chic but often quaint fashion stores. The high street, like the rest of the locality, is prosperous, chic and self-assured.

Notable State Secondary schools in the area are the Grey Coat Hospital for girls, the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School for boys, and the Jewish Free School, which is co-educational. There are also plenty of well-known Independent Secondary schools.

Transport

St John's Wood tube station lies between Swiss Cottage and Baker Street on the Jubilee line providing easy access to the City and London's West End. The area also benefits from a strong bus network and visible taxi coverage.
